Week 41

We went to the hospital today for our regular appointment. We are officially one week past our estimated due date, so we had to go through some additional testing. We started with a sonogram, then did a "non-stress test" (see photo above) for about 40 minutes, then Savannah got an exam. Everything is going great! Everything is so normal that we are reluctant to use the word "late" or "past due."

So here are our stats:

• baby's heart rate is about 140 bpm--perfect
• baby's activity level and responses are normal (she kicked in response to a buzzer pushed up against Savannah's belly)
• baby is practicing breathing--we saw her pushing fluid in and out of her lungs during the sonogram--this is a good sign
• placenta is healthy
• level of amniotic fluid is good
• Savannah's blood pressure continues to be excellent
• Savannah is 1cm dilated and 75% effaced (cervix thinned)
• Our Certified Nurse Midwife today, Ellen, was able to poke baby's head with her finger through Savannah's cervix! Exciting! (and creepy-feeling)

We are due back for another sonogram and non-stress test on Thursday morning, March 3. Depending on how things go at that time, we may schedule a date for induction. But hopefully we will have a spontaneous labor before that.

The amount of dilation that we are seeing right now is no indication of when labor may begin. It could still happen tonight. We still have a shot at a leap day baby! Thank you, everyone, for your kind emails and text messages.

We'll Smoke the Baby Out!

 

We just went on a date and ate some super spicy Basil Thai. They say that spicy food can get the baby moving. We're gonna smoke her out!

Due Date 2/22

Sorry, folks! No baby today. I'm not surprised she's late--she is her parent's child already. If she doesn't come in the next two weeks (by March 7), you are welcome to start asking questions and demanding answers. Until then, we'll be waiting anxiously just like the rest of you!

Happy Valentine's Day!

After a very long day of work on Friday night, Mike wanted to get a picture of us while I was still dressed up! Here we are in the baby's room (still a work in progress). My feet were pretty sore, but Mikey rubbed them for me. He is already such a good dad!

Eight days until our due date... But did you know that only 5% of babies arrive on their "due" date? It's true--babies come when they are ready. So please, don't everyone call or text us on that day. We will be just as eager as you are if she hasn't arrived by then. And we are prepared to wait as long as two weeks after the expected due date to get her out here into the world. So, she could come tomorrow, or she could come in early March. We'll see.

When I go into labor, we will post the announcement on this blog and keep you all up-to-date from here. This is where we will post our first pictures of her and announce her name (once we have one). And my goal is to post a photo of her every day for the first year. So if you're wondering about us, you can always look here first!
