Day 47...

Took some good pics of the twins today, and we are making time to share them! (Compare Evelyn on her 47th day here.)

No big news lately, except the kids got weighed last week. Vern was 9lbs, 13oz and June was 10lbs, 7oz... so all the feedings are paying off!

June is wearing the same outfit as Evelyn in her 5-week-old pic

Vern is wearing the outfit that his father wore home from the hospital when he was born!
The matching pineapple outfits were gifts from the nurses at the hospital when the kids were born.

And here are just a few more good pics from recently:

one month old...

The twins turned one month old last Sunday, and they are growing fast! We took their weights on our home scale today: June is a solid 10 lbs, and Vern is around 9.3 lbs -- vindication for the endless hours of breastfeeding!

Thank you so much to everyone who has been helping us out in one way or another--we could NOT do this without you (and maintain our sanity). Much love to you all!

One Week Old!

Holy cow--we made it through the first week with our sanity intact! We feel like we can do anything... except get a good night's sleep.

Here are a few pics from today:

They're Hee-ere...

The twins are here, and now we're all home together!
Meet the new kids:

Vernon James Donovan
"Vern Jimmy"
Born 6/29 @ 1:15pm
7lbs, 6oz
19 1/4"

June Violet Donovan
"June Bug"
Born 6/29 @ 1:17pm
7lbs, 14oz
19 3/4"

We got to have skin-to-skin contact with them as soon as they arrived:

Overall, their births went as we expected... except that Savannah was not anticipating her debilitating nausea post-anesthesia on Friday; and neither of us expected night two at the hospital to be so challenging with both babies wanting to be nursed and held constantly.

But Evelyn and some of the kids' many grandparents got to visit:

All four of these "lucky" individuals below were born by C-section at this very hospital...

We got released early this afternoon with everyone looking healthy!

We hope to see you see all of you in the real world soon! Come by and help us hold babies!

With love, The Donovan Gang

Tomorrow is the Big Day!

Hey, there! We haven't been blogging our sonograms because the babies have both been head-down, faces away, for quite some time. The last good pictures we got are of the babies snuggling head-to-head, below:

But we will be meeting them in person just 24 hours from now! So no more imagining what these black and white blobs will actually be like...

We are told that baby girl is about one pound larger than baby boy. Both babies are predicted to be of ample size (7lbs and 8lbs or more?!). Both have excellent heart rates, are practice breathing, and are active (which is extra uncomfortable for mama's poor distended belly!). We keep hearing that baby girl has a lot of hair already.

So there you have the predictions. We'll see how close to true they are tomorrow! Wish us luck!

see baby boy

We had our 32 week checkup yesterday! The babies are still doing great. Baby girl would not cooperate for a photo (she was facing mama's back and wouldn't roll over), but we got our first 3D sonos of baby boy.

She is still bigger than him--about 5 lbs. 1 oz. (78th percentile), and he is about 4 lbs. 13 oz (65th percentile).

Take a look at baby boy and see if he looks familiar to you:

In the picture above, his nose is smushed against the membrane. We've seen him several times like that, so he must like it--maybe it feels like a security blanket.

We will be going for sonograms weekly now, so more updates to come next week! Their C-section is currently scheduled for Friday, June 29 at 11am unless they decide to make a break for it.

Big sister is very excited to meet the babies soon! You can see she's spending lots of time at Blair Park these days... Swinging is her new favorite thing.

Episode Three: The Twins Cometh Soon

So I decided to try blogging again... this time will be with two infants and a toddler, so definitely NOT every day. Yes, I'm handing over Evelyn's Baby Blog to her twin siblings. There is a lot she will have to share with them, and I assure you the blog will be the least of her concerns.

Meet the twins (still gestating, of course)!

"Baby B" is the girl on the left giving a fist pump. "Baby A" is the boy on the right. This was taken the day we found there were two babies instead of one, when I was 12 weeks pregnant. That was one helluva surprise!

At 16 weeks, here they are all cuddled up together. The is the only shot we have of the two of them in the same frame together:

20 weeks; boy is on the left with his nose pressed again the membrane, and girl is on the right:

And here is Baby Girl's perfectly-formed nose, mouth and chin:

24 weeks; boy has his nose pushed up against the membrane again (on the right) and looks like he's blowing a bubble, but I think he's sucking his thumb.

And here they are at 28 weeks, taken yesterday (girl on the left, boy on the right). She is currently 3lbs 3oz, and he is 2lbs 15oz. Both are above-average in size, which is good for their health, but bad for my belly which surely has a maximum capacity, beyond which I may explode.

Enough black-and-white blobs for now? Well, the real babies will be here in 9 short weeks or less! They get evicted from their home on Friday, June 29 if they don't vacate on their own terms before then, which they likely will.

If you would like to send them a gift, please find our twins' registry on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/baby-reg/savannah-donovan-june-2018-urbana/2K7JGQP6UXT5U

If it takes a village to raise ONE child, we are surely going to need all of the help we can get!

Love you all,
Savannah, Mike, Evelyn & the Twins
