Greetings, family and friends, from Evelyn! She is now just over 40 hours old and has been making some amazing progress since her birth.
After laboring for over 34 hours without pain meds, Savannah learned that our little girl was still in a very difficult position for progressing. Without food or sleep for such a long time, we understood it was not healthy for either her or the baby to continue much longer. So, Savannah decided it was best to proceed with a c-section. Though it was not what we planned (and definitely not what Savannah had originally wanted), it did produce the desired result--a beautiful and healthy baby!
One more hurdle, though: Our little girl had meconium in her lungs, and the neonatal ICU decided she needed further attention. After Evelyn's birth, Mike went with her for care and assessment until Savannah finished recovering from surgery at around 2am. Evelyn has been in the NICU ever since, but she will most likely be released tomorrow along with Savannah. She is the biggest baby in there, and has completely recovered from her respiratory distress. Only hospital regulations are keeping her there for at least another 24 hours of observation and to make sure that breast feeding is going well (no pressure). Savannah is also rebounding from surgery quickly and easily.
Evelyn has proven to be an exceptional and amazing girl, growing stronger and more beautiful with every passing moment. We look forward to you all meeting her in person very soon!
