First Bath!

In 20 minutes time:

1. Poop through clothes and onto bouncy chair
2. Pee through new diaper and onto Mom while she is feeding me
3. Get milk on everything
4. Throw up more milk onto Mom
5. Get first bath even though Dad is missing it because he's at work...

         6. Rinse and repeat...?

Day 22 - 3/30/16

Three Weeks Old

Today we took a walk with the stroller for an entire hour! It was so beautiful outside. 

And Grandma Liz came along and took some pictures!

Belly Button Liberation Day

Evelyn's umbilical cord stump fell off today! Yay! Her belly button has almost fully healed. Once it has, she can have her first real bath.

Also, Mike went back to work today. Our family missed being together during the daytime, but Savannah and Evelyn managed without his help until the evening.

Happy Easter!

Today was a wonderful day for the Donovan trio. Dad gave Evelyn her first bottle (of breastmilk), and Mom tasted a bit of independence again.

We went for a walk at Meadowbrook Park, enjoyed the sunshine, felt the fresh spring winds...

Finished the bottle...

And Evelyn immediately took to Judy, who has a knack for burping babies!

Day 18

Savannah is starting to crack. Too much sitting on the couch breast feeding. Not enough time out of the house or talking to other adults. Mike is doing his best to maintain sanity in our household, which is now ruled by this relentless feeding machine:

Day 17 - 3/25/16

On Friday, we went to the University of Illinois so Evelyn could participate in some cognitive testing as part of the IKids developmental research project. She was shown a series of images and videos, and the amount of time she spent responding to pictures of faces was measured. While we were there, we used their scale to see how much weight Evelyn had gained since her last visit to the pediatrician--she is about 9.3 lbs. now. It's good to know that all of her time breast feeding is paying off!

Dress up Day

By this morning, Evelyn had run out of clean clothes in her size--she had peed and/or vomited on all of them. Luckily, her friend Mariella had sent her a package from Ohio that was sitting on our doorstep just in time! And that is the story of how Evelyn wore her first dress. Savannah had been pretty averse to the idea of dressing her in "girly" clothes, but even she can't deny how cute this is!

Day 15

Today, Evelyn practiced her impression of Zoolander's Blue Steel (below). She does this a lot, but we have yet to photograph her impression at its best. 

Then, we took a family trip to the hospital for Savannah's two-week postpartum checkup, and Evelyn got baptised into childhood by a toddler who coughed in her face. In a couple years she can be the one who coughs on some other baby, as kids do.

And of course we had more family time!

Two Weeks Old

  

All of the sleeping and eating is paying off -- our little sprout is growing! Savannah is eagerly looking forward to Week 3 when Mike will give Evelyn her first bottle feeding. (Savannah will gain a tiny bit of her freedom back by not being the sole deliverer of food!)

Day 10 - 3/18/16

We had such a big day on Friday that mommy fell asleep before she could post any pictures. So to make up for it, here are lots of photos from yesterday!

Cloth Diaper Initiation Day

"Oops! I peed my pants!"

Today we started experimenting with cloth diapers for the first time. After peeing through the diapers onto three different outfits, and our bed, we conclude that Evelyn has passed the capacity for the newborn-sized cloth diapers. Tomorrow we will try a larger version!

One Week Old!

Today we went to the pediatrician for Evelyn's second checkup. She has gained 4.5 ounces in two days thanks to Savannah's plentiful milk supply and Evelyn's insatiable appetite. She is very healthy and isn't due back to the pediatrician until her regular one month checkup.

She did get the hiccups four times today, though...

Then we took our first stroller ride to the polling place to vote...

And we celebrated Evelyn's first week of life with a cake!

Day 6: Music Education Day

We started off the day today with a family dance to Stay Up Late by the Talking Heads and continued to play Evelyn our favorites on vinyl all day long.

We had a big today, starting with our first visit to the pediatrician. Evelyn is "perfect." We already knew that, of course, but it's really nice to hear that from an MD. 

This afternoon, Evelyn met her Great Grandparents Wentworth for the first time. 

Day 4

Only four days old, and we feel like we've known her our whole lives!
