Let Go or Be Dragged

We are now 10 days past our estimated due date. Savannah decided that yesterday (Wednesday) would be her last day of work. It was hard to let go, but all the preparations had been made, and there was no sense in dragging around waiting to begin labor. Mike is certain that resting will be more beneficial for her than working.

Today we had another sonogram, non-stress test, and exam. Nothing has changed since Monday. Baby and Savannah are still in excellent condition, but there is no indication of when labor might begin. And so the hospital staff had us schedule a date for induction.

This is a very difficult scenario for Savannah to accept and let go of control. (Mike will have to drag me in!) Many of you know that Savannah has her heart set on a natural, drug-free, intervention-free childbirth. But hospital policy will not allow us to go past 42 weeks. In fact, our doula, Rachael, told us that she has never seen Carle Hospital allow a pregnancy to go past 42 weeks and 1 day. We are scheduled to spend the night at the hospital for "cervical ripening" on Sunday and IV oxytocin induction on Monday morning--eeesh.

So, counting tonight, we have three nights for this baby to come on her own without having to resort to medical induction. Savannah has been trying nearly every natural method of inducing labor. Today she tried acupuncture for the first time. Tomorrow, maybe reflexology, too!

Here's what we need you to do: Send us your wishes, prayers, hopes, and positive energy; think thoughts of our baby coming; light a candle; do some voodoo witchcraft. If all of you beautiful, amazing people who love us can put your thoughts and energy towards summoning our baby, maybe she will come! It's worth a try, right?

We'll let you know here first if it works! One way or another, you will see a photo of that baby on our blog no later than Tuesday...

So, so much love to all three of you! I know the pain and disappointment of birth not going the way you want, and it's hard but will be absolutely fine if that's the way it goes. Holding your beautiful baby girl at the end of it will help replace any sadness at birth being different than you hoped. I promise.

Lots of walking, pressure points at the sacrum/Achilles/behind the knees, sex, castor oil (though I think that's just a DIY induction and messy) ... Come, baby Donovan, come!

Everything Caitlin said, above. If you haven't tried nipple stimulation, it's worth a try!
